Gordon Brown making Britain Great

So there you go. GB has announced his intention to rule GB. And it's all change from now on. He'll be completely different to Tony Blair. So all you Labour voters who strayed because of the war, for example? You can all come back now. Safe in the knowledge that GB under GB will move in a new direction.

Because Gordon voted AGAINST the Iraq war didn't he? Er no. OK so he spoke out against it surely? 'Fraid not. Had a word in Tony's ear? Nope - more like told the world TB and the other GB (jnr) were the saviours of Iraq.

Now, however, as he pads about marking his territory (love Iain McWhirter's constant comparisons to Macavity) he's telling us that "mistakes have been made". Well they were as much his mistakes as anyone else's in that Labour government. He talked today of a "shift of emphasis" in Iraq and moves toward "political reconciliation" but that's not new, that's what was allegedly on the cards anyway.

Don't let this man fool you into believing that his leadership somehow wipes the slate of the last decade clean - he was right at the heart of government for all those years and if he thought Tony Blair had it wrong he should and would have done something about it before now. What is it they say about it taking just one good man to say nothing?

1 - The Future's Dull - The Future's Brown

I’ve been reading and re-reading the various hate blogs that vilify everything about Tony Blair and his policies. These blogs are purportedly written by Conservative Councillors hailing from various parts of Britain, mostly from the London area. These so-called Councillors are probably paid stooges sitting in prison cells with nothing better to do. Apparently, there’s no law against stealing another person’s identity if the impostor gains no financial rewards, but merely ruins the reputation of the owner of the name he has stolen.

At least, with a definitive departure date, Tony Blair has shut these charlatan bloggers up once and for all. Yesterday's and today’s pages are unusually insipid and lacking in content – most of the authors have announced the demise or a hiatus in their blogs. I wonder why?

Coral

3 - Well put Anne. As an independence for Scotland supporter I am afraid that Brown will turn on the SNP and be a spiteful vindictive PM, it is in his nature. He avoided the question when it was put to him by Andrew Marrr this morning, about whether or not he would work with Alex Salmond. Very po faced and dangerous response, if he was a democrat he should have taken the opportunity to say he would work with a democratically elected minister, he didn't.
I am also very worried about his other offering. That he intends to bring forward a constitution to protect the Union. What protection does it require that it has not got? His smile is false, it switches on and of like a chameleon. He is false, I do not trust him, and I do not like him, I think he is sinister and does not care a toss about Scotland except to use us for his own political ambition. Salmond will need to box very clever to avoid his trip wires. (Comment this)

4 - I sometimes feel sad that Scottish people can't be proud that they are about to have their first Prime Minister since Earl of Bute.

Whatever his parliamentary party, the boy has done good!

I still believe that Mr Brown has genuine Socialist policies but has struggled in his belief through a blinkered ambition to be seen to be as good or as 'god' by the business leaders. His record as Chancellor, despite what the doubters say, is not so bad. His ability to keep inflation down has been good for everyone.

Is it not time for the SNP to congratulate Mr Brown on his achievements. The man is Scottish and at the end of the day, not a bad bloke really.

Disclaimer: My thoughts about Mr Brown have been coloured by reading his biography and watching the TV film about him and Blair with David Morrissey (very good tv). They just showed that out here in Germany with no subtitles.

5 - Dave, I'm suspicious. I think you're winding me up here. Are you?? If not, I know you don't mean it the way it sounded but suggesting that we should be proud of GB just because he's Scottish, is like you having a warm glow inside when Thatcher came to power - her being English and all. Gordon Brown was responsible for a nasty, vitriolic person campaign against Independence in Scotland. I can't rejoice that someone who tells the Scottish people they're not good enough, is in an even greater position of power. He's also said he'll refuse to work with our First Minister despite the fact that we're still part of the UK. That's someone who lets his personal grudges get in the way of what's good for his country. But I think you were joking. Weren't you? (Comment this)

6 - Brown the architect off much that has happened over the last ten years.

Blair/Browns legacy...

In 2005-6 3.8m children were in poverty - in homes on less than 60% of average income including housing costs.
Figures showing a 200,000 rise in UK children living in relative poverty last year have been described as a "moraldisgrace" by Barnardo's.

Taken from the compass web site March 2007...

"A bumper City bonus season is drawing to a close. An estimated £8.8 billion has been dished out to City workers, with 4,200 of them receiving bonuses in excess of £1 million. The usual tales of conspicuous consumption follow, washed down with champagne, while the rest of Britain looks on."

Let me put it to you all what Brown is all about...

Welfare reform/End to secure council tenancies/Cutting peoples wages and working conditions these are policies of a nation thats ever greater need is based on one premise `greed` with the working class vote mainly in the bag (to be taken for granted) NEW Labour have been playing to the middle classes these last ten years and for the most part that has worked well for them. The problem is and will remain for NEW Labour a problem they cannot overcome that with the event of globalization the working class of the UK has for the major part become surplus to requirements, they have and are becoming a drain on a society that now consists off the middle and higher class and they will always return to their true home the Tory party. The working class will bit by bit fall away from NEW Labour. There are more and more people coming to the conclusion that prostitution should be
legalized because not only could it financially benefit the country, but it could also reduce crime. So we have a situation where a person who is unemployed can be sent to be employed in prostitution and if they don`t take the job their unemployment benefits/income support will be cut or stopped. Well it is going to happen to the disabled under NEW Labours welfare reform that is a fact, they are saying you can work "it`s all in your mind that you can`t work" if you don`t WANT to work your benefit/income support will be cut back by at least 20% as you can`t live on that what will people have to do?. NEW Labour say charities should take over from the state so that the rich will not have to pay more tax.
Wake up as to where we are all going. Put yourself in the position of a mother who has children to feed and house where is she going to earn money when society (so called) doesn`t care. It`s all going downhill faster and faster.

7 - The current Welfare Reform Bill will not help people it will further disadvantage them. It will target the people who are least able to defend themselves. We need Welfare Reform that is about helping people not sanctioning people. How will reducing there benefits help them? It will mean that they will have to go cold and hungry as they will be unable to pay for power to heat their homes or food to feed their families. The idea of rewarding private companies for getting people off of benefits rather then doing what is best for the claimant will mean that people will be thrown of benefits which will then be paid to line the pockets of the rich. This Bill is not about helping people but about an arbitrary target set by a government that has little or no understanding of the problems of disabled people or single parents. We ask that the Prime Minister stop and think again and ask the people who are most effected how things can be made better and how their life’s chances can be improved.
