George is having to work for his money
George Foulkes says that MSPs have a much greater workload than MPs. Correct! And I'm glad we've got someone who has been both MP and MSP to finally admit that. I've no doubt that some MPs work very hard (that'll be the SNP ones then :-)) and they keep very unsociable hours and have a lot of travelling to do etc etc. But who are you going to go to when you need support with an issue? The parliamentarian in London, or the one along the road? That's what devolving power (and I'm not just talking about nationally) is all about, bringing politics and decision making closer to the people. The closer it is to them, the more likely they'll get involved. And that's what's happened with the MSPs - everyone is coming to them with their problems. Not sure what a lot of the MPs have left to do - abolish them that's what I say! It's a layer of government that, in Scotland, we just don't need.
Until Dave in Germany gets back to me (and tells me how to do links - see previous post) you'll just have to make do with this link http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/6989972.stm
PS one question in my mind - if George reckons he's a greater workload in the Scottish Parliament, how come he feels he can afford a day a week to sit in the Lords?
