Anything to be different
Got a text from a Rangers supporting friend last night, checking that I was supporting "the Scottish team" who were playing that night. It was followed by another which, very unconvincingly, pledged "not to laugh" when Celtic "get beat tomorrow night"!
I realised as we were chatting that he went to a denominational / Catholic school and was probably the only Rangers supporter. Just as I had been the only Celtic fan at my non denominational school.
I was busy telling him my theory that he only supported Rangers so's not to "follow the crowd" when I realised I only knew that because I had exactly the same reason. I have never liked being told what to do and as soon as I worked out I was expected to follow follow Rangers, I did the opposite. He confessed to being the same and I was left wondering who was worse - them for following the crowd, or us for refusing, simply to make a point!
Whatever, I am very pleased to note that he was wrong and Celtic won 2-1 tonight. The grown up in me wishes RFC similar success in the future :-)
