Material Girl gets Spiritual
The best bit of Christmas for me this year was definitely the Watchnight service at the Cathedral but I am also honest enough to admit that I love getting presents and Santa was pretty good to me this year. I got a George Foreman grill which made me jump for joy! Sad or what? But I don't care, I love it! I got lots of "going away" type gifts too. My niece Christie got me a book about Sri Lanka and a magnetic games set to play on the flight over! My sister Janet gave me a pink diamante digital camera which I love. My cousin John gave me money toward my flight and a Greenock Morton teddy bear. My mum, always security conscious got me a very helpful money belt which you wear under your clothes PLUS a rucksack with picnic plates and a wine cooler inside.
I'll be taking that with me when I do this - a 4 hour hike up Adam's Peak. Just to prove I'm not completely materialistic, it's a religious pilgrimage and you start at 2am so you get to the summit for sunrise. I started my new fitness regime today because I'm not missing out on that! The village below, incidentally, is called Dalhousie - very Scottish!

Well I hope everyone out there had a great Christmas. Mine got off to a great start when I went to the Watch Night Service at Glasgow Cathedral. What a beautiful building and a perfect start to Christmas day for me. I am more spiritual than religious but I know what Christmas is supposed to be about and I always want to go to the Watch Night service - I just can't usually drag folk out of the pub for long enough. So, it was lovely to be able to go this year with my good friend Paul. The atmosphere was uplifting, it was nice to stop and think about things and of course singing Christmas carols is one of my favourite things to do. The best bit for me was when it was finally Christmas Day and we all wished each other Happy Christmas - there was a real air of excitement. The only weird thing was once it ended, the organist started playing Hammer House of Horror style music - we thought maybe it was to get rid of us quicker. Worked for me! The strangest thing for me was that we were the only two laughing! Might go back on Sunday just to see if that's the norm there!
