Happy New Year - it's 2008

It's 6.15am and I've just gone to bed leaving some of my guests debating something deep and meaningful in the living room. I don't really know where I get my stamina sometimes - it's not the alcohol because I've had hardly any and stopped altogether several hours ago! Ah well, long may it continue. I am well used to all night parties at Hogmanay seeing as my dad was a bit of a party animal. To be honest I've never liked New Year but as we waited for the bells last night I felt excited in a way that I never have before. Perhaps it was because things have changed so much politically. Maybe it was because I'm about to part with most of my belongings and head off to Sri Lanka. There's definitely something very liberating about getting rid of things you don't need. Whatever it was, this year felt different and I was very glad to be spending it with the group of friends who came over to ours tonight. Anyway better get some sleep before I head down to my mum's for the first meal of 2008 - we like our family traditions :-)
