Multi use delis in Dennistoun

As I was coming home tonight, I walked up from Bellgrove Station and noticed a new deli type shop. It listed various foodstuffs - olives, stuffed vine leaves etc. There was another list:

Polish Food

Kurdish Food

Turkish Food

I’m thinking how great this is and how I must try it out and I’m screwing up my eyes to see the last two on the list which I soon discovered were:

Frozen Food!

and

Cigarettes and Tobacco!!

Kind of takes the shine off it a bit. Not very exotic is it?

“Och, you’re the same age as me”

That’s what Aileen Campbell, (Scotland’s youngest MSP at the age of 27) used to say to me whenever I moaned about being aged. And it made me feel marginally better because normally I don’t FEEL any different in age. However, occasionally, something happens to make you realise that actually, your friends will tell you whatever you want to hear just to shut you up. Aileen and I are going to be flatmates and we’re busy looking for a flat in Dennistoun. She lives at one end of our street, I live at the other. We’re going to meet in the middle or thereabouts. Anyway last night I told her I’d fixed up a viewing of a flat in Hanson Park and she immediately starts dancing (in the street!) and singing “mmm bop, doo be doo, mmm bop”!! I’m thinking “what is she doing?” and when I finally recover enough to ask her out loud she goes “you know, Hanson” and starts singing again. It took quite a while for the penny to drop with me before I realised it’s that guy, that pop star called Hanson. I felt old. And no, it’s not a guy - it’s 3 guys, it’s a whole band called Hanson. They’re not bad looking either. Oh God, I forgot - I’m old!

I love Springburn

I’ve been all over the constituency today - leafletted Springburn itself at 7am (for one minute only - more info in a mo); Robroyston in the afternoon; Carntyne in the evening and now, home in Dennistoun. It was a lovely sunny day and most people were extremely positive. They love our local income tax, can’t see why we shouldn’t be independent, like Alex Salmond. What is wrong? Does nobody read tabloids anymore?!

Two older guys said to me they’d hate to see Scotland “go independent”. When I asked why they were absolutely certain that we just couldn’t do it. “We haven’t got the brains hen” said one of them. “Well, some of us definitely haven’t” I thought to myself but managed not to say out loud. Although it maddens me, I know we can all be subsceptible to brainwashing and let’s face it, the unionists have been pretty consistent and intense in that area.

Everyone else I met seemed really pleased to meet me. People kept shaking my hand and telling me that they were voting for me. They all said that “everyone they knew” was also voting SNP. And they all said they were really looking forward to voting for us. They were actually excited at the prospect. It’s not often I’m humble but THAT humbled me - the thought that we’ve actually given some people hope and faith in Scottish politics. Let’s hope we get the chance to show them that their faith was not misplaced.

Anyway am leafletting at 7am so - it’s time … time for bed!

PS the reason I leafletted for one minute only this morning - came down first tenement, closed my eyes for a wee rest on the way down (yes, whilst walking) and tripped and twisted my ankle! Luckily recovered later on and did at least 4 hours walking today.
